Africa’s Business Heroes (ABH) competition is an entrepreneurship competition and philanthropic initiative sponsored by the Jack Ma Foundation and Alibaba
Africa’s Business Heroes competition has since its inception in 2019, supported Africa entrepreneurs in various business sectors.
“ABH aims to identify, support, and inspire the next generation of African entrepreneurs who are making an impact in their local communities, working to solve the most pressing problems, and building a more sustainable and inclusive economy for the future.”
In response to the growing interest, Africa’s Business Heroes has extended the deadline for 2024 entries to June 9th,, offering selected candidates access to training, mentorship, and networking opportunities. A total of $1.5 million in grant funding will be distributed among the top 10 finalists, with the first prize winner receiving $300,000.
To facilitate broader participation for the 2024 application, ABH has hosted information sessions and community events across the continent to facilitate the application process and nurture a vibrant entrepreneurial community. These events have taken place in countries like South Africa, Kenya, Zambia, Cameroon, Ghana, Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire, with upcoming sessions scheduled for Egypt, Ethiopia, Rwanda and Senegal.
These events are conducted in partnership with local entrepreneur organizations and key ABH stakeholders including judges, Heroes and partners.
Since its inception in 2019, ABH has spotlighted and supported some of Africa’s brightest entrepreneurial minds. The ABH top 10 finalists (Heroes) over the last five years:
- Have created 123,000 direct and indirect jobs in Africa
- Are serving over 37.5 million customers in Africa and beyond
- Have raised over US$153 million (not counting debt raises)
- Operate in 52 African countries
BENEFITS
- Grant funds for upto $300,000
- 10 finalists share a prize pool of $1.5 million in grants ranging from $100,000 to $300,000. The winner takes home $300,000; The 1st runner-up and 2nd runner-up take home $250,000 and $150,000 respectively. All other 7 finalists, take home $100,000.

This competition is open to entrepreneurs (Founder or co-Founder) from all 54 African countries can participate
Your company is registered and primarily operational in Africa
Your company has been market-tested – with customers and 3 years of revenue.
HOW TO APPLY

- Step 3: Fill in the application
- Step 4: Get a reference
- Step 5: Submit a video of a customer testimonial
Individuals are also encouraged to nominate eligible entrepreneurs who they believe are creating impactful and sustainable solutions to challenging issues. .
